Churchcare was first launched in 2001 with the aim of providing a comprehensive resource for churchwardens and other volunteers who look after church buildings. The re-launched website can be accessed at www.churchcare.co.uk . Its content and remit have been greatly expanded to cover an extensive range of topics. The four core sections offer guidance on the repair and maintenance of the building; caring for artworks, furnishings and fittings; churchyard management and the development of the church building. This fourth section contains information on extended and community uses, opening your church to visitors and school groups, advice on any alterations or extensions which might be necessary as well as a guidance note on providing hosted post offices in churches. In order to guide churchwardens and others through the complex procedures involved, the four core sections also contain simple step-by-step guides on topics such as "How to Implement Repairs", "How to Get Your Church's Contents Conserved", " How to Make Alterations to Your Church Building" and "How to Develop Your Church Building". Furthermore, the website provides information on legislation (including the faculty jurisdiction, secular statutory controls and health and safety legislation), archaeology, funding and church security.
