The Faith Encounter Programme has been initiating and promoting Faith Guiding Courses in Birmingham since October 2007. The aim is to train people of all faiths in Birmingham, as Faith Guides, so that places of worship are equipped to offer high quality educational visits.
The Faith Guiding Certificate has been accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding at Level 2. The course offers a guiding qualification for a specific place of worship, with emphasis on the presentation and interpretation of the faith. Faith Guides also have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of their own faith and of other faiths. Now working in partnership with the West Midlands Faiths Forum to extend Faith Guiding courses to four other centres in the region. Website faithencounter.org.uk |

The Herefordshire Churches Tourism Group (HCTG) has been established for ten years and produces a guidance leaflet for churches and leaflets for Tourist Information Centres every two years and have a website: visitherefordshirechurches.co.uk
The new Hereford diocese website has section for visitors at hereford.anglican.org/visitors and a section for churches on how to welcome visitors at welcoming_visitors_and_tourists, so addressing the two audiences in separate areas.
Future plans: developing a Shropshire Churches Tourism Group along the lines of the Herefordshire CTG. This group works across two Dioceses, Hereford and Lichfield who are working together with Hereford leading as they have the experience. Will be launching a brochure on 11 May 2010. There will a new website, and a range of training experiences will be offered from the chat shop/swap shop to more formal sessions on subjects such as leaflet design etc. |

The Go West Teme Valley Project is an initiative of the Chaplaincy for Agriculture and Rural Life in the Diocese of Worcester. Go West uses the history and heritage of the countryside and its ancient churches in ways that contribute to the wellbeing of the countryside at a time of change and uncertainty. Started in 2002 following the disastrous effects of the BSE and Foot and Mouth outbreaks, to see if the rich heritage of church and countryside could be used to assist the rural community and, at the same time, increase understanding between town and country.
Website provides maps of walks, lists of local sites and events and stories. Also provides educational days out for families. Website: temevalley.org.uk. |
